Replace Only If a Serviceable Element Is Installed

Serviceable-Element Replacement Steps
- Clean the cover before opening the housing.
- Remove the cover bolts, cover and old element. Do not wash or recondition the element.
- Clean both sealing surfaces and install the correct replacement element and cover.
- Start every bolt finger-tight, then follow Ford’s illustrated tightening sequence.
- Tighten the cover bolts to 4.5–6 N·m (3–4 lb-ft) and record the mileage.
Stop if the housing does not match Ford’s serviceable-element illustration or the outlet connection is damaged.
